Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has launched 3 corridors in Kerala, 6 corridors in Karnataka and 10 corridors in Tamil Nadu. The move comes when India is witnessing a rapid electric vehicle adoption while charging infrastructure is struggling to catch up.
The 3 corridors in Kerala will contain 19 fuel stations, 6 corridors in Karnataka will contain 33 fuel stations and 10 corridors in Tamil Nadu will contain 58 fuel stations. At its 110 fuel stations, 19 EV charging corridors have been launched.
“It takes just 30 minutes to charge an EV, giving a driving range of up to 125 km at our fuel stations. Therefore we have maintained a distance of 100 km between two charging stations,” said Pushp Kumar Nayar, Head of Retail in the South.
““The fast-charging stations have been installed between 110 fuel stations which have been divided into various electric corridors. BPCL has digitised the entire EV charger locator, charger operations and transaction process through the HelloBPCL app for an online hassle-free and transparent user experience,” said PS Ravi, BPCL Executive Director Incharge (Retail).
As of January 2023 India just had 5254 EV charging stations for 20.64 Lakh EVs. However this picture could change rapidly for good if shopping malls, residential societies, highway restaurants, religious places, commercial office spaces start plying charging stations.
