Ford unveils Explorer EV exclusively for European markets.

Ford Motor Company has unveiled its Explorer EV for European markets. The move has been seen as part of Ford’s ambitious plan for electric vehicles. By introducing Explorer EV Ford is leveraging on the well known brand “Explorer”.

The new Ford Electric SUV will be manufactured in Germany. Thanks to Volkswagen and Ford’s partnership, the new Explorer EV is based on VW’s MEB platform. Although this is a smaller crossover electric SUV exclusively for European markets, Ford has confirmed that they will soon be introducing electric version of three-row Ford Explorer in the US.

Although power train configurations have not been made by Ford, the automotive giants does confirm that Explorer EV is capable of charging from 10-80% in 25 minutes. The car would be available in both Rear Wheel Drive and All Wheel Drive variants. The EV starting price would be at amount slightly less than €45,000 or $48250(approximately). The car is expected to go on sale later this year. Further details to follow soon.

Martin Sander, general manager of Ford’s European EV business, said in a release , “Explorer is a trailblazer for a new breed of exciting Ford electric vehicles.Steeped in our American roots but built in Cologne for our customers in Europe, it is road trip-ready for the big adventures and fully loaded with everything our customers will need for their daily drives.”

Ford is focusing on its Europe mission to offer all-electric portfolio of passenger cars by 2030. We expect more EV launches in the months to come. It remains to be seen how Ford and Volkswagen together could leverage the partnership for greater electric penetration of both companys’ passenger vehicles.
