7Charge has been introduced by 7-Eleven in four states. More states to follow. In fact 7-Eleven will also introduced its charging network in Canada.

The convenience store giant says that it intends to build one of the largest EV fast charging networks through its app. 7Charge is available in Florida, Texas, Colorado and California. The 7Charge App can be downloaded from App Store or Google Play. The charging network enables any charging of any EV model that is compatible with common CHAdeMO or Combined Charging System (CCS) plug types.

Joe DePinto, President and Chief Executive Officer at 7‑Eleven says “For over 95 years, 7‑Eleven has innovated to meet our customers’ needs – delivering convenience where, when and how they want it. Now, we are innovating once again to meet our customers’ where they are by expanding our business to provide EV drivers convenience of the future…today.”

Further the press release said,” The 7Charge network will deliver on the growing consumer need for EV charging infrastructure. By expanding the 7Charge network, while continuing to utilize third-party fast-charging network options, 7‑Eleven will have the ability to grow its network to match consumer demand and make EV charging available to neighborhoods that have, until now, lacked access.”

7-Eleven runs over 13,000 stores in the US and Canada and leveraging these stores for EV charging could help it strengthen its position as a convenience store. However we are not sure about the rate at which the convenience store giant has planned the expansion of its charging network. Subway and Starbucks had announced that they would be setting up EV charging stations in some of their stores. With retail corporations and Fast food giants announcing their intentions of EV charging networks, we can expect a rapid growth of EV charging stations in coming years in the country.
